Bedroom painting advice?
We are planning on painting our bedroom a very bright and vibrant red/orange color and then sponging over it with a glaze a few shades brighter. Here is a link to the exact color we want (though not necessarily that brand of paint): http://rlhome.polo.com/rlhome/products/paint/sponging_howto.asp Anyway, I'm getting mixed suggestions and was wondering what advice I could get. What would be the best paint to use that would require the least amount of coats? I would prefer high quality, but wish to go the cost effective route. Ralph Lauren's instructions don't actually say anything about a primer, but I've heard without using a primer, it could cost me more then two coats of paint to reach the desired color. So what brand should I go with (good quality, cost effective and least amount of coats) and do I need a primer? Thanks in advance!

- You should only have to use a primer if you are trying to cover a really dark or bright color. Those colors tend to blead through and cause your finish coat color to appear different. Since you are wanting to use a bright color, I would reccomend using a latex primer tinted to your finish coat color. The best paint out there for the price is Benjamin Moore Super Spec Paint. It has exceptional coverage and you can get it for about 20 bucks. Also I would reccomend using and oil based glaze. It's a little more difficult to clean up and it has more of a smell, but it is a whole lot easier to work with as far as keeping a wet edge.
- Behr is a great brand, but here's my advice use a tinted primer. Primer costs less you can tint it to match and save yourself a couple coats of expensive paint. When painting anything always do 2 coats of paint. When painting red you most likely will need a 3rd some people have found themselves putting 4 or 5 coats on. Never had that problem (love red rooms!) I always use tinted primer.
- I think a yellow/gold tones would look nice over the red paint. You can use a primer to minimize the final number of coats you will need. Just get the primer tinted to 50% of the paint color. this will help you reach full coverage. We use sherwin williams paints they are very high quality, durable, and easy to work with. www.welovepainting.com
